Need MRI

For medical reasons my pacemaker was removed and the lead left in my chest wall. This was in 2009 and have had no need for replacement.

My question is - Has anyone had an MRI done with the PM/and or leads in? Any problems with procedure?

I am needing a neck MRI. Other xrays do not visualize effectively.

You need to ask your EP if you can get an MRI or not. There are certain kinds of PMs and leads that allow you to get a MRI. I even had this conversation with my EP about this during my last implant. Both my new pacer and leads are MRI comparable but not the leads that were originally put in. Why can't a CT work?

The leads are the main reason we can't have an mri, not the box, because they can heat up and damage the heart. However, there are more and more facilities able to safely do an mri on someone with pm leads. It can't be done on just any mri equipment and it has to be carefully supervised, but it can be done.
