Dance Research

Hi guys,

I had a pacemaker fitted back in 2009 and now I'm studying at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance. I'm in the 2nd year of my degree and I'm making a piece of choreography on the 'heart'. I was just wondering if any of you would be willing to talk to me about your own personal experience for my research?

Thank you!

My youngest child is an aspiring professional ballet dancer in New York City. Anytime you want to talk or IM, I'd be glad to help you.

Dance and the heart

I would suggest you look at the components of the ECG ( PQRST waves. The formation of the complexes should make a nice dance structure, and you can have a sort of Mexican wave ECG across the dance floor.

Of course a little group of 4, representing atria and ventricles 'beating up and down' would work, with something on the edge of the stage for a pulse.

You will find that the heart sounds ( as heard though a stethoscope) offer a good rhythm.

The only difficulty I have had is my inability to go dancing, as much as I would have liked, at my son's wedding a month after I had my PM. I do sometimes have shortness of breath dancing the Viennese Waltz until I get warmed up.
Hope the ideas help. By all means contact me if you think I can help further. Off dancing tonight ( as last night, and as will be Sunday).

I love this new part of me, and very, very thankful that this technology exists and I know that it's all only going to get better over time.
