Back to Crossfit

7 weeks and 1 day post-implant, and I just completed my first workout class back!

I've been working my own steady rehab programme since getting the all-clear last week, focusing on making sure I've got full range of movement and stability. Still a way to go with weights and getting strength back.

Running, Kettlebell swings and burpees wasn't too taxing on the movement side - and I'd been working those in my rehab over the past week anyway - so I thought give it a go!

Feels great to get back to some intensity!

Know the feeling!

Sounds like you have a good plan to get back. As you I am sure you know, increasing the intensity gradually is the way to go.

It was such a great feeling to get back Crossfit after my PM implant. It took me about a month to get back to where I was previously. Even had a PR on Fran! My coaches have some limitations on me because they don't want me to hit my PM. So they won't let me do burpees or use a barbell in the front rack position.

Limitations

My PM is under the muscle, so fairly well protected. I'm being very careful around barbell work at the moment before building up to dynamic lifts or loading up weights. Front rack seems ok for me, but I am working very hard on technique to keep it up on the shoulders - much better than I was before!

The biggest noticeable fall-of for me post op has been strength in pull-ups and dips, both of which I'm quite wary of, but taking it slowly. It's still early days.

It's great to know there's other paced Crossfitters out there!

What a great feeling to get back to normal!

pain when running

by momOwens - 2014-07-03 03:07:03

Hey Pete,
My son's is under his muscle as well, but 2 months later he still cannot run as he has too much pain and says it feels like its "bouncing around" inside him. Do you ever feel like yours is moving around, or cause a sharp pain? He was a collegiate basketball player so used to pushing through pain. Do you know if your surgeon stitched yours to your muscle? I assume it's under your pectoral? Thanks

Pain

Hi,

I've also responded directly to your thread on this.

I can understand the 'bouncing around' feeling, though mine has subsided. I don't have any pain now, and haven't had any sharp pain. That said, I have tended to stop doing things if it started to feel too uncomfortable - I'll push through some pain, but not left side chest just at the moment! At the moment, I don't seem to have any issues.

I'm afraid I don't know how mine's fixed under the muscle - one of the many questions I've thought of since the op...
