I live in the UK and had a pacemaker implanted 2 months ago. 4 weeks after the procedure (with my Doctor's consent) I travelled to the USA (Florida) to a villa with a pool we use each year. Last year I could not manage 1 length, but this year I did 6 straight off and felt great. I was not out of breath and my pulse although increased quickly returned to normal. My surgeon's view is that he gave me the device to enjoy life. He tells me to do whatever I am comfortable with.
I agree with the comments about taking time to adjust. It does feel a bit strange at first but you quickly adapt.
Best of luck!

Yes, it's a bit sketchy those first few months trying to sleep on the left side. It does get better.
