Glade I found this site. 51 yrs old. Was working out hard 4 days a week till about 4 weeks ago when I had a pacemaker put in. Totally unexepected. Was doing sets of 295lbs on the bench very strict for 5. Any thoughts on how long I should before Before benching again. Many Thanks

Hi Pete, They put the PM high on the middle of my left pec. Will ask the Doc if it is Implanted sub-bpectoral. As you can guess I know nothing about PM but am learning. I am very encouraged by this site. Will go slow training as suggested. See the Cardiologist in 10 days. 2 weeks from today will be 6 weeks. Thanks again
Working out

Hi Odin
I do a bootcamp type workout, a lot of upper body work but not with heavy weight. I had the current PM implanted in April 2012, was back to workouts in 6 wks. In July 2013 I started getting battery shocks, my chest was pulsing. As it turns out the lead coating stripped and I was scheduled for a lead change in April this year. My PM is high in the chest as well and as a precaution Dr's suggested I double the recovery period before returning to workouts, to allow extra time for both PM and leads to set. You may weant to consider that as well
Check with your doc

My doc emphasized toning versus strength building after my implant. I am 66 love tri sports and some weight work. As a result of his counsel, I cut my settings down on all machines by 10 to 15 %.
Lyme Carditis ODIN

I have heart block caused by Lyme Carditis. Almost done with therapy for the Lyme so they turned off the PM to see if my heart was working right. No luck. I have lost over 50 lbs in 6 weeks. It looks like it will take me months to get back to training hard. I am 51 and hate feeling week. Going to the gym tomorrow for the first time. Just bike and treadmill and maybe very light tri and Bi. Thanks for the support

Not Long...

Seems to be 6 weeks is the standard restricted movement while the leads settle, then you can start moving fully again, so that would be only another 2 weeks to go, although it depends on when your medical team give you the ok. It's not worth the risk of jumping the gun for the sake of a week or two.
I'd go slow and steady for the first few weeks after that. Take it steady, I found initially even light weights and push ups ached quite a lot at first. If it hurts, back off a bit. It might take you another month or so to get back on it close to normal, but that really isn't that long in the grand scheme of things. You've already done one month!
Just watch out for impact on the PM site. If you've had it implanted sub-pectoral, it's less of an issue. Just concentrate on good form!
