Numbness and Discomfort

Hello all
it's nearly 6 weeks since i had my pacemaker fitted. I still get numbness and loss of colour in my left hand when any pressure is put on the PM site. I am also still getting some pain from where the incision was made. there appears to be 2 lumps, one either end of the incision which are still very tender
has anyone had similar experiences

Hi Sheila
thanks for your comments. I think you are right regarding the lumps being where the leads are attached. It seems that when any pressure is put on these that's when the numbness and loss of colour in my hand occurs. I don't have any problems when I have no top on but I cant spend the rest of my life going round topless as it would not be a pleasant site.
Cheers
Dave

lumps near incision

Hi,

I have had my pacer almost a year now. I never experienced any numbness or loss of color like you describe so I'm not sure what that could be. It did take several months before it wasn't painful to the touch around the incision. I think it takes a long time for your nerves to "knit" back together. I can still feel a lump on one end and I'm guessing that's where the leads are attached to the generator. If I were to apply much pressure I think it would be painful.

Good luck to you!

It is always best to ask your doctor when you have a specific problem. That being said, what you describe seem pretty normal to be. In the interim you should try to adapt by wearing something that doesn't rub against the incision. Once you are all healed up you won't even know you have a pacemaker.
