Well, it has been about a month since I went in to see my EP about getting off the Toprol XL. He said I had to take 25 mg daily for a month (cutting it from 50mg) then come back in to see how I and my pacer was doing. I had the check today and the pm is great and so am I. No SVT detected either! YAY! So, I have to take a 12.5 mg tablet tomorrow then I am off the Toprol XL until April 11th!!! When I go back in to see my EP in April, he is going check the pm again and make sure I'm okay and then I'm done with this evil med!!!
Just wanted to pass along the good news...

Way to go Ella, i know you probably hate taking drugs as much as anyone in here. We would all like to be off the drugs. I have to take 2 and I know one of them helped to cause my problems. But no one will venture into those waters. 1 Is atenolol25's which I take for high blood pressure that i never had till I got my pacer. The other is Prilosec 40's which I have been on since they came out. About 10 years or so. I asked about side affects and was told there are no serious ones. Of course no one had ever been on them long term. I guess i am the test case. I really believe they helped me to this point. Any way good for you i hope you get to stay off the pills. I wish we all could. Bowlrbob

Just wanted to wish you the best. I'm sure your going to like being off the beta blocker. It's pretty much a crazy medicine to take. Watch the level of energy you'll have in just a few days. Good for you kiddo. God bless you and be safe always.
Your Buddy,
Christmmpace
James
Thanks

How do I respond to you privately? You wrote to me asking for places to hike in tucson and I'm a new member to this web site and not sure how to do this. I belong to 2 groups of friends who hike and sometines we go overnight and the best places are the state parks.
tell me how to proceed with pvt msg and I'll write back.
I need chest protection because my balance is bad after chemo/radiation and I had one fractured lead, maybe from a mammogram, and needed surgery and ultimately a new pm so I would like to keep my distance from hospitals for a few years. I go to the Phoenix Mayo Clinic for my pm care.
thanks for your response.
Mary

Yesterday I moved to a new place in my mind and realized how bad I felt 'before' and the difference my pacemaker has made.
That is great news

Great news Ela-Girl. I am sure you are feeling much better already with the lower dose and should feel like new with none. It took me a few days to get out of that quagmire induced by the xl. Good for you!
