Hi everyone, I have bradycardia and have had my new friend for 4 months now. I play field hockey and am struggling with the pace of the game as my max HR is now set at 170bpm. Is it because I still need to work on fitness levels or is this it? I feel like my PC isn't kicking in fast enough. Cheers, Vickster

It is impossible to give meaningful advice without more info.
The fact that you say your PM isn't kicking in fast enough suggests that you are getting breathless when you first start exercising. If this is the case you MAY just need a simple adjustment to your PM settings.
A maximum setting of 170 bpm does not necessarily mean that your heart can't exceed 170; it depends on what condition you have ; again not enough info.
I suggest that you go back to your PM expert a.s.a.p and clearly describe the problem. He /she may give you a treadmill test to find out what is happening or not happening in your case.
Best of luck
Ian

thanks for the replies. I have a A3DR01 PC with 2 leads. Prior to the PC I had a resting HR of 60bpm and it would drop to 40bpm during exercise. During recovery it would shoot up to 90bpm would no higher. My max is now set at 170bpm. When I exercise now I sometimes feel that the PC doesn't kick in fast enough when I have to sprint and as a result I feel light headed and stop to assist with recovery.
Maybe my fitness is still pretty bad given that it took almost 4 mths to be diagnosed. I feel frustrated because I can't just go out there and run like a used to.

You're going to have to

You're going to have to give us some more information. You don't give us the kind of PM or ICD you have. How we answer your question depends upon the type of PM/ICD is implanted.
There are also rate response settings and some other settings that can be tweaked. We have several members on the forum who can give you a real good insight into how you might want your settings changed or not changed (as the case may be) but those settings aren't universal to all PM's.
Mine was set - out of the box - and it's working fine for me. I have run into instances of chronotropic incompetence but, for my lifestyle, that's rare. Since you lead more of an athletic life, you would need different settings than mine.
So give us some information. You'll get some really helpful answers from the athletic members of the forum.
