Hello Everyone,
Does anyone know if the bluetooth interferes with the pacemaker ? NJ now has a law cell phones must be "hands free". When the doc put on pacemaker in 2002, he said manufacturers were not sure of interfere of the cell phone, so he told me to talk on opposite side of pacemaker. Now with the law, has anyone heard about the bluetooth ?

Bluetooth & PM
by SMITTY - 2008-04-11 09:04:24
Hello,
Most of us do not consider a cell phone to be a problem for our pacemakers, We just take the precautions mentioned by Bowlrbob. However, I have read Bluetooth may be a different story. A lot depends on the make and model of your pacemaker. According to an article I read sometime ago (the reason I point out I read this sometime ago is I may not remember all the details) that the Medtronic Maximo has built in circuitry to let it communicate from several feet away with the device used for PM checkups and has been known to have a problem with Bluetooth. Since the PM can send and receive signals, it may try communicating with a Bluetooth and the fear is this may let Bluetooth make a change in the PM settings.
Since we all know electronics can do strange and unusual things, if you are concerned about this I think the safe thing to do is contact the manufacturer of your PM.
Good luck,
Smitty

I have 1 friend who got a refund on his bluetooth purchase as it interfered with his pacemaker and made him unwell.

These things are really touchy if the color of our teeth affects them!!!!!!!!

I'm 43 and have had my pacemaker four weeks today. I'm looking forward to living another 50 years and this marvelous device inside me will help me do that.
Doesn't bother me.

I have a blue tooth system I use the reciever on my opposite side from the pacer. But I have the phone on my belt on the same side. I have had no problems. So from my point of view. You should be fine. Bowlrbob
