Going over upper limit

I teach aerobics and have had a pacemaker for 13 yeArs. Wish I found this site sooner. My rates are set at 60-140 when I exercise my average heart rate is at 152 and maxes at178 fairly consistently.
I just had the lower changed from 70-60. Is there an issue with consistently going over ????? And what range would be good for me?
I want the most out of workouts !

Thanks

How can you be 100% paced in the atria, if you are exceeding your upper (sensor) rate limit when you exercise? I mean, that shows that you have an atrial rhythm that is faster than the pacemaker paces you. So, when you are exercising and going that high, you are not paced in the atria. Interesting. I'm paced 94% in the atria, and never ever exceed my upper rate limit. I have no atrial rhythm that would go faster, it all depends on the pacemaker's rate response.

Jerry, I thought you were dependent on the CLS sensor, but now it sounds like you are exceeding your upper sensor rate, too. Is CLS still switched on? How are you doing with it? I'm currently having some problems with CLS, mostly with sudden rate drops :-( Biotronik tech will be coming in next week.

it's ok

If you are getting higher than your max rate, that's all you rather than the pm so it's fine. It can only pace up to the upper limit so if you are all paced then it's a good idea to try to stay under the limit.

The best range for you is the one where you feel good! I really don't think the charts with target rates apply much to most of us because our hearts don't beat like everyone else's. Some days I stay at 150 when I work out, other days I'm working just as hard and feel good but am only up to 130. I aim for sweating and breathing hard, able to talk but not sing, whatever rate that is. As for the lower limit, see where you feel best. 70 is fairly high for a lower limit but if it feels good, then go with it. We're all different and there is no one right answer.

Thanks!

I am 100% on atrial lead and 1% on ventricular lead. I am getting use to the lower being 60. Thanks for the comment.

For those that have a device with a defibrillator, as in my case.

My settings are 70-165 and my HR has gone over 200 and as high as 217 a few times during/ after aerobics classes and even just being in the gym. My defib is set to shock at 220.....so I don't take the aerobics classes anymore. :-(

Like Tracey said, we are all different. I don't move anywhere near what Tracey does but lately my heart likes to act as if I do.

What it all means is that you are in good shape and work out hard. My PM is set for 50-140. The reason the EP had it set at 50 is because I work out a lot. My normal before PM was 50-60. When I do cardio I will go 148 and higher. When we go over the limit it just means we are getting a good work out and it's good for our harts.

Inga,

My CLS is turned off. My heart is working pretty well on it's own. Currently, I am being pace in the Atrium about 25% of the time and the Ventricle less than 5%. My heart will speed up on its own when exercising. Because of all the work I have had done to it takes awhile to speed up but it will get there.

I was having trouble with my heart speeding up just about every time I moved. I would go up the stairs and buy the time I got to the top I was at 120 or 130. My current settings have taken care of that and I can hardly tell I have a PM now.

All is well.

Good luck to you.

I go in for knee surgery tomorrow. Just a clean out I hope.

Jerry
