Definition with weights

I have been doing weight training for about a year. I use free weights, but only use between 5-8 pounds. I do not have definition in my arms. I would like that cut look in my arms. My arms are toning but its one big arm. Am I dreaming ?

I think a lot of it is genetics! Three years ago I moved up from hand weights to kettlebells (never under 18#) and barbells (blank bar is 35# before adding plates). We switch it up every day and I have protein with my coconut water within half an hour of finishing. My arms are solid and I'm the strongest I've ever been, but zero definition. (annoyed sigh)

Partly Genetics

I think part of it is genetics. I have that cut look and don't do any weight training and very little resistance training because I don't want to bulk up any more than I am naturally - I want that long lean look so I stick with cardio and a little resistance training. They say women are not genetically capable of getting large muscles like men but I am the oddball that proves that theory wrong - I can't buy any short sleeved shirts that have elastic at the sleeve because it cuts into my bicep. I would suggest working with a trainer. They will switch up your routine and that might make the difference. Another thing is diet. Eating protein right after a workout is supposed to repair muscle and also help you gain muscle.

thanks for the tips !

I was drinking protein smoothie after workouts. I do pilates . But, my cardio is low impact because of my knees. My cardio is only walking outside, walking treadmill and low impact dvds. Yoga and stretching is next because injury to hip, groin and knees !

I wasn't really self-conscious about it. I didn't even know I had one until around six or seven years old. I just thought I had a rock in my side.
