I am approaching 5-weeks post procedure. Have a device checkup next week. I'm hoping to be able to get back in the pool. Anyone out there a swimmer and if so, how long after your procedure were you able to swim again. I've taken up brisk walking/jogging, but really miss the water. I'd appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

Swimming

Hi Tonyfreddy
I agree with Lurch about the infection of the incision site. It was after 6 weeks & I thought or rather it looked like my incision site had totallly healed. On the 7th week, I had a pimple like thing appearing at the corner of the incision site. The little yellow head showed that it was pus and upon applying pressure on it, pus really ooze out. I had to see my doctor the following day to see treatment and cleaned up the infected site. Fortunately it was just a simple infection and that saves the day. If you have to swim I would suggest that you make sure the pool is not too crowded and a certain amount of common sense hygiene is strictly practised by pool users and after swim proper precaution on cleaning the incision site is vital. Wishing you a speedy recovery and a good swim! Btw I am 10 weeks after implant of pacemaker.

My EP cleared me for swimming about 5 weeks post implant of my ICD. His was only really concerned with the incision site; wanted to make sure it had fully closed before I went back into the pool.
He did recommend that I take it easy the first few times, but I have a tendency to "forget" that type of advise..... at about 6 weeks I was bodysurfing with my Grandson!
Again, the big thing is to make sure that the incision site has totally and completely healed. You do not want to deal with an infection in the pocket!
