Target heart rate

Do I measure my target heart rate the same as everyone else with a pacemaker ? Do the meds I take influence the target heart too ?

Throw out the charts! The meds, the pacer, and your underlying condition and overall health will all influence what your heart can and should do now.

I go by how I feel. If I can talk but not sing, I assume I'm working hard enough. Some days that's 120, but I had a stress test recently and was jogging along, feeling good and easily chatting with the doc when my hr was 170. I wouldn't have believed I was that high unless I'd seen the machines myself. My heart has its own rules lol.

No you don't

TraceyE (as always) hit the nail on the head. Throw out the charts. They're great for teaching but useless for normal living.

Like she said, the pacemaker, your underlying heart condition, your meds, as well as your overall health will influence your heart now.

Any exercise is better than none at all. So the more you can get up and move, the better. Pre PM I was on a downward spiral. Post PM, I'm doing a lot better. Have increased the overall amount of exercise I've been able to do.. Life is not perfect - it never is - but I'm doing better.

Was in cardio rehab. We had a "running" argument the whole time. They wanted me to do cardio which meant I was supposed to get my heart rate above 120. My meds wouldn't let my heart rate get to 120. They kept telling me to do cardio workouts. I kept asking them how I was going to do it. Never did get to an agreeable solution. So I settled on doing a lot of walking and lifting weights. Maybe not the exercise they wanted but exercise none the less.

Hope everything continues to go well for you.

thank you

I never really went by my heart rate, but curious. I just exercise with a vary of things. With the popular Fitbit how does that measure correctly ?

I wouldn't be alive if it wasn't for pacemakers. I've had mine for 35+ years. I was fainting all of the time and had flat-lined also. I feel very blessed to live in this time of technology.
