Could he be allergic to the IV antibiotic that they had given him? Hoep that he is feeling better soon.

GO TO A DOCTOR

Go get help, immediately. This is not normal. A person can pick up all sorts of staph infections from hospitals.

infection or reaction

It sounds like an allergic reaction. Is he on new meds? I have had a rash from pain meds. Ask to be seen. Often it's just a matter of stopping whatever caused it, sometimes steroids will help get rid of it. But he needs to find out the cause asap.
