Two weeks after the PM install, my left arm including the hand started to swell. There had been no swelling prior. I had been doing well, even rode the stationary bike a few times. Other than the swelling, I'm feeling quite good.
It started out with minor swelling when I woke up in the morning but would subside during the day. After a few days of this the swelling remained. I iced it and that seemed to help. My son said icing would not help and keep it elevated. After a couple of days of keeping the arm elevated it has improved markedly, however the elbow and upper part of the arm is still a bit swollen. I can now see the veins in the back of my hand.
I left a message with the doctor who called. He said if the swelling continued to come in for an exam - possibly the vein used to run the wires might not be flowing as well as it should into the left arm? He concurred keeping the arm elevated was a good thing to do.
I was told after surgery I would have extensive bruising - no one said why (apparently due to hematoma). My entire left side down to the waist, across the chest in places, and upper left arm still show bruising. The bruising in the upper left arm is light and not as dark a shade of grape/purple.
I'm assuming the reason for the swelling after two weeks is due to my body trying to rid itself of the hematoma? My son thought my lymphatic system was overloaded?
Anyone experience this?
I still do not understand why this would show up after two weeks.

You know you're wired when...
You have an excuse for gaining an extra ounce or two.

In fact after the final "tweaks" of my pacemaker programming at the one year check up it is working so well that I forget I have it.

After two weeks the left arm swelling has dissipated and is close to normal. I noticed after cycling it seemed to be more swollen, so I decided to discontinue exercise until the six weeks are up. The best guess is a circulation issue with the wires in the vein? This supposedly self corrects over time.
However for the past week the swollen left arm has been replaced by a sore/tender left side of the neck? Almost seems/feels like I strained the tendon. I hope it goes away as well.
The ecchymosis from the nicked blood vessel has dissipated substantially. I noticed a network of purple veins on the upper left side of my chest became visible - a first. Also hope they disappear as well.
