4 Complications

My husband had a pacemaker implanted in March this year. In the past 6 weeks he first got an infection that made him feel horrible. Next he got a large blood clot in his upper body. After that he went back to the ER with what turned out to be pericarditis with very terrible pain. No that is not all. This weekend back to the ER again and this time it was Afib and A flutter. Anybody else have all this? It has been very stressful and confusing.

4 complications

I developed a pulmonary embolism 6 days after my implantation. of a biventricular PM unit.Chest pain and HR of 150 were the symptoms.treated with Apixaban for 3 months and follow up CT angio of chest was normal. On day 3 of Apixaban I developed a pocket hematoma and on day 4 developed hives from the antibiotic I was also on. On day 6 developed atrial flutter which resolved on its own in a hour or so no recurrence. EP dr blamed the Aflutter on the pulmonary embolus. Ep doc who has a very busy practice says he sees patient with PE every 2-3 yrs as a complication of implantation. No problems since then, except worry and am back running, a little slower than before, about 20 miles a week.Complications are not rare and sometime one patient get more than his share of them such as you and I did. Hang in there.

The pacer systems are really very reliable. The main problem is the incompetent programming of them. If yours is working well for you, get on with life and enjoy it. You probably are more at risk of problems with a valve job than the pacer.
