KDR 700 series Medtronic pacemaker ERI mode

Kappa KDR 700 series pacemakers

Elective Replacement Indicator (ERI)
The Elective Replacement Indicator (ERI) is set when the battery
voltage drops below a certain limit. Listed below are the
nonmagnet and magnet modes at ERI.
From the point that the ERI is set, the pacemaker will operate at
ERI conditions for approximately three months for typical
pacemaker configurations during the normal operating life. At the end of three months, erratic pacing will ensue. The patient should be scheduled for immediate pacemaker replacement when the ERI is first found to be set.
Table C-11. Elective Replacement Indicator Conditions For
Kappa 700/600 Series Pacemakers

Nonmagnet Mode VVI mode at 65 ppm rate
From what the Kyle is telling me at Medtronic help center ( 1-800-551-5544, he's telling me this mode will pace only when your heart rate drops under the 65 bpm. If your heart beats over 65 beats it won't pace your heart. If you heart rate is below 65 bpm it will pace your heart at 65 ppm.

Magnet Mode VOO mode at 65 ppm rate
This mode is only when a magnet is placed over the pacemaker in a doctor office or if your in the operating room. Sometimes doctor don't want a patient's pacemaker to act up with all the magnetic interferences such as in an operating room. This mode is activated only when a magnet is place over the device.

I hope this helps!

Special thanks to the Medtronic pacemaker specialist Kyle who took the time out to make sure I knew everything I needed to know about this ERI mode, thanks!

EOL mode for Medtronic Pacers

by sailor - 2009-10-24 03:10:15

I have been let go into EOL on my medtronic pacers twice. I have talked to the techs and they informed me that this is mainly the doctor's falt. They understand that the pacer will pace normal for 3 months after entering this stage. This might be true for some people. I have a 3rd degree AV block and need 100% pacing in the lower chamber of the heart. The medtronic tech told me that when the pacer enters EOL mode it becomes a single chamber Pacer. It paces in the upper chamber only to save energy. My heart rate drops to 40bpm when i am in EOL mode. I know this for a fact. I let the tech to shut off my pacer for a couple minutes and run a EKG strip. I am ok if i am inbed but, when i try to stand or walk forget it. I get very dizzy and have passed out last time, while walking from my previous doctors office. My pacer changed modes while in his office and i told him i felt very bad. He said to tell his appointment girl to make arrangements. to have it changed. She said it would be in about 2 weeks before they could change it. I only got about 10 ft out of his office door and i was down on the floor. I hope i do not have to go through this again. They now say i have about 2 years remaining on this battery. I still have not found a doctor that will change it before EOL. What would happen if i had been driving a car and it changed modes?

You know you're wired when...

You have an excuse for gaining an extra ounce or two.
