Pacemaker & exercise

Recent recipient - 3 weeks on.  Want to get back into exercise, especially my bike.  I did ride everyday up to 30kilometres.  Doc says I can start again slowy this week but I'm a bit anxious about it. Any cyclists with advice?

If your doctor cleared you, then go for it! I found being active again was the best medicine for my state of mind. Start slowly and see how it goes, don't go all crazy your first time out, but there's no need to be afraid of it. 

Cycling and PMs

If you were fit to cycle prior to your PM then you are even fitter now.

I was on my bike within the first week of having a pacemaker.

The advantage is that you can keep your fitness without swinging your arm around.

There is absolutely no fear that you are going to damage yourself by riding a bike on the flat after having a PM, even with the wound still not completely healed. 

If you have only had a few days without cycling there is no reason why you cannot get back  into it as before. I don't even see why you need to start off gradually. Common sense would dictate that if you got too breathless you would slow down or stop.  

It would be helpful to check that the rate response ( exercise function) is turned on for your pacemaker setting. Worth a discussion with the tech. people as there are differing response levels.

Take care on the roads- we lost a friend in Australia, killed cycling!
