Hello. I have just booked in to have a biventricular pacemaker. I have been enjoying crossfit for a year and am very keen to continue. I have been reading through some of the posts about returning to crossfit with a pacemaker. I just would love to know does it matter what type of pacemaker it is or do I have every chance of returning once I have healed and comfortable to do so. I actually did mention to the doctor to place the device under muscle so I can do as much movement and not be too restricted. Thanking any input in advance. Vivianne

Bi ventricular pm

Unfortunately l don’t have an option with the type of pm. I was told the biventricular pm was a little larger which is why I asked for it to be implanted under muscle. I am not a large person so I’m hoping they have enough there to work with. My biggest worry is that I will regain a reasonable degree of normality and can achieve most of what I could before the implant. I was lucky not to have any signs or symptoms and the urgency and discovery of needing the pm and increased medication was a chance finding. I had continued crossfit up to the day before I was told I had reduced cardiac function and had AV block/LBBB/missed beats and ectopic beats. I now just have to wait, recover, and hopefully regain a new improved current situation. Just really nervous and anxious with the lack of options as to treatment feeling a little cornered.

CRT are larger than regular 2 lead pacers. Talk to your doctor about the best place to put it so that you can continue CF. You don't want the bar anywhere near your leads or box when you hold it in front rack. You might want to explain what that is to your doctor, some understand more than others about weights. Sometimes they put it between the pectorals, sometimes they can put it lower and deeper without going into the muscle. It depends on our build.
