Overdrive pacing

Does anyone have overdrive pacing on their pacemaker and why should it be on?

Was hoping someone who knew what they were talking about would answer this! I don't use it do don't know a lot about it but the idea is to pace the heart faster than its native rate. So if your heart beats at 60 but misbehaves and gets irregular, they might try setting it to 70 to pace faster than the problem. It can also be used to prevent tachycardia tho the reasons why that works go over my head. Check this out

I've never heard it called that but I'm paced at 80bpm to try to "beat" the PVCs. At 70bpm, I'd get bigeminy PVCs. Less so at 80bpm. The reasoning is fairly clear, not that it makes me any happier about it.

BTW, I have no "normal" heartbeat anymore, so don't know if this is considered "overdrive". ;-)

Sounds like ATP (anti-tachycardia pacing). It overdrives the heart beat when tachycardia is detected then stops in theory cauding the hesrt rate to return to normal. A standard feature in defibrillators and CRT-D. Works quite well on most cases.
