I had a duel lead pacemaker fitted in 2006, replaced in 2012, and now has 15 months battery life left. Since 2017 I have suffered with AF controlled by medication.
After feeling unwell for sometime and a pacemaker check up I have now been told that between 2nd February, 2019 and 24th March, 2019, my pacemaker intervened due to detecting a reaction bewtween my two upper heart chambers and set my resting pace at 120 BPM.
I naturally felt dreadful due to the fixed setting, but it has now been reset and seems to be working correctly at a resting rate of 68 as it was previously..
As a consequence I am waiting for a Echo cardiogram to ascertain any damage caused.
Has anybody experienced a similar event, or can explain the situation, the clinic I attend only answer questions, they dont tell you anything, so unless you ask you dont know..

I am no expert, but I believe that without the defibrillator that I have, I would be dead.

You didn't feel a 120bpm heart rate? Wow! I can see why they're doing an echocardiogram. Anything over 100bpm puts you at risk of TIC (Tachycardia Induced Cardiomyopathy).
It's harder to explain things when the other person doesn't have any idea what you're talking about but your medical team should be teaching you what you need to know. Otherwise, how can you give informed consent? If they're not interested in teaching, find another doctor who is.
It's also your responsibility to learn as much as possible about your condition. With the Internet, it's not all that hard.
