UK Drivers

Does anyone know if you need to inform you insurance company that you have had an ICD fitted ?

I have not had any symptoms to date and have it fitted as a precaution as I have an underlying hereditary heart condition.

Can any UK drivers please advise on their experience.

Did you inform your insurer ?

Did the cost of insurance rise dramatically ?

Thanks as always !

If you have not already done so, you must inform the DVLA.   Then you need to advise your insurer that you have declared the condition and that the DVLA are aware.  When you declare to the insurance you have to pick one have two options DVLA aware no restrictions or DVLA aware restrictions.  You will get a letter from the DVLA shortly after you have declared.

ICD placement following no symptoms

As Pacemum says it is a legal requirement in the UK that you notify the D.V.L.A. of any cardiac implant. I had no increase in motor insurance after my PM implant. It may be different for an ICD.

A pacemaker ( without ICD ) bans you from driving for one week after implant

An ICD implant fitted in someone who hasn't shown any symptoms usually means 1 month without driving.

An ICD fitting after symptoms of ventricular arrythmias means 6 months before you can drive

All of the above depend on you being relatively symptom-free post implant.

The time will go quickly !

Best of luck

Ian
