Hi guys
i Had a pacemaker two weeks ago so still learning, I think it is CRT-D Implanted. That's a Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy Defibrillator can anyone explain how it works mine appears to be set at 50bpm before it comes in, I was exercising when I had my attack and passed out,, how does it work when you are already passed 50bpm ? It does it kick in at any level when your heart goes out of sync,
Thank you again guys for posing replies to me it’s really helped my anxiety
regards
jim

Pacemakers can be set up in various ways, depending on your needs but in general, as we say in this grou, a pacemaker is only an accelerator. It can only make the heart go faster. It cannot slow it down (not a brake). You don't say much about your condition but from your statement that yours is set to 50bpm, I assume you have something like sick sinus syndrome, probably with sinus pauses. Basically, the pacemaker is there to catch you if your heart forgets to beat.
Now, the "-D" part of the CRT-D. As you noted, this adds a defibrillator to the mix. If your heart goes crazy and into some unrecoverable arrhythmia, the defibrillator stops the heart completely and allows the heart to reset - as we used to say in computers, the "Big Red Switch".
BTW, welcome to the group and I'm sorry that you have to be here. Do yourself a favor and learn as much as you can about your condition and hardware. The knowledge will serve you well.
