It's a well established therapy

There is good published work showing that CRT works - not for everyone, but it definitely can make a real difference to patient health and not just numbers like percentage LV ejection fraction (%EF).  %EF is a great objective assessment for the EP docs, and done by the same operator over a period of time, it's valuable.  There is a quite a lot of variability in the measurement, and between operators, so small changes (a few percent) can be misleading, although long-term trends are reliable.

But what really matters is how you feel - and CRT works.

70% chance of EF improvement

My EP told me that CRT-D recipients have a 70% chance of improvement in the EF after the implant of a CRT-D. However, he also said that a crt-d implant recipient will feel better even without an EF improvement if the chambers were not synchronized before the implant.

EF improvement

My EF was 20% with my pacemaker and was told I suffered from pacemaker syndrome.
Replaced it 1 year ago with a Medtronic ICD and my EF is now 37%. Will be having a Mugga scan next October for a new measurement but I am very pleased with the result.

You know you're wired when...

You fondly named your implanted buddy.

I love this new part of me, and very, very thankful that this technology exists and I know that it's all only going to get better over time.
