Pacemaker

Hello everyone, I'm new to this site. I have had my pacemaker since June 2019. Between waking up from them not giving me enough Fentanyl on the surgery table, to ending up in the emergency room the day I went home with pain going down my arm and tightness in my chest. Doesn't seem like it made my life for the better. I have symptoms that I never had before shortness of breath swelling in my neck swelling in my collar bone, Burning pain. Today they did a test on my Vega Nerve. Has anybody else had this much trouble?

I had my ICD implanted in March of 2013, the only issue I had is that when they would pace my heart through a particular lead it would cause a great deal of pain when they swore I shouldn't be able to feel anything at all. It turned out that the lead actaully went through the heart muscle and was also contacting the pericardium which is loaded with nerves. about 4 years ago I took a nasty fall at work that happened to severly damage that particular lead and caused them to have to replace it, since that time I have had absolutely ZERO problems. I hope your issue gets resolved.

Wake up? Not enough fentanyl?

My pacemaker was implanted using local anesthetics only.  There was no "wakeing up".  I was lucid the entire time and there was only one time it was painful and my guess is that was when they were making the pocket.

I did have a DCCV when I was still awake.  That was a real shocker and I let them know it (put a curse on their ancestors).

It does sound like they put you through a lot.  I'm sure the PM will do wonders for you, as soon as the ancillary stuf gets taken care of.

Waking up during surgery

I had my first pacemaker put in January 29,2020 and I also woke up during surgery and felt him cutting my chest open and then telling me to calm down. I have never had this problem with anesthesia before but it was (and still is) a nightmare.  I still wake up crying at night remembering that feeling and hearing them panicking. Then 2 days after leaving hospital had type A flu and right now I have a severe case of bronchitis. This whole experience has been a nightmare, every time it zaps my heart I feel it. I had mine put in because of Bradycardia and sick sinus syndrome. So I feel your pain queen of hearts I'll say a prayer it gets better for you, but we sound like we are in the same boat, it has been such a nightmare this past month but hopefully it will get better soon. Best wishes!

You know you're wired when...

You can finally prove that you have a heart.

A pacemaker completely solved my problem. In fact, it was implanted just 7 weeks ago and I ran a race today, placed first in my age group.
