paceguard

Found this from a 2011 posting!  Anyone know of other GOOD sites to buy pacemaker supplies from?  Is there a vest you can buy/wear temporarily to protect your pacemaker when you are operating a chain saw or working on a car to protect you from Electromagnetic fields ?

There is a product out on the market specifically for pacemaker protection. It's called Paceguard. It has been used for sports or other daily activities, Their website is www.paceguard.com. I know people who have used this and have had great results. Good luck.

Why?

I've operated chain saws, jump started a car, and work in a woodshop operating all the equipment without this vest you're talking about, and with NO  problems.  So, why do I need one??  This smells like a scam.

I've also run a high powered drill with my pacemaker lying on top of a running drill with NO adverse affects.  So I don't feel this vest is, 1) needed, 2) of any real value.

Over the past six years of having my pacemaker I've only had problems due to the accelerometer in my pacemaker.  I've also kept away from the rare earth magnets - the kind you need to use a pry bar to take apart.  And in the case of the rare earth magnets, I don't feel this vest will be of any use either.

So of what value is it?  What scientific tests have been done that prove they are of any value?

Thanks

Other than protecting your box (tissue around it, really) and leads from physical damage (and a lot of pain) there is nothing that such a "shield" can do.  EMI that won't fry you, isn't going to affect it and magnetic fields that may affect it/you cannot be stopped by anything other than so much iron or steel that you couldn't lift it.

That's to protect you from impact during sports. It's ok to work on cars and operate a chain saw. Modern pacers are very well shielded and short of an industrial setting, you aren't likely to run into anything that will cause problems.

In fact after the final "tweaks" of my pacemaker programming at the one year check up it is working so well that I forget I have it.
