New to the club

Hi there,

I'm Nikky, I'm new to the club. I'm 50 and had my St.Jude dual chamber pacemaker installed 3/18/20. Hope everyone is staying safe out there.

How was the implant procedure for you ?  I hope you are doing okay.  Although it is very early days, do you feel any different now ?  It took us a few months for everything to settle down and we had to take care not to raise our pacemaker side arm above our heads for around 6 weeks to avoid pulling on leads and/or opening our delicate wounds, but some gentle movement is advised to avoid developing stiffness in the arm, particularly in the shoulder.

I had my pacemaker implanted in May 2018 and my husband also has one and his was implanted in March 2018.  Mine is a two lead pacemaker and hubby's is a single lead.  We are elderly folk (71 and 81) but still very mobile.   Our pacemakers have made a real improvement to our quality of life.

We are trying hard to remain virus free by self isolating as much as possible, going out only for essential shopping/prescriptions and very infrequently now.  We have some wonderful younger neighbours around us offering to help out.  We hope you stay safe too and that you will benefit from having a pacemaker

In fact after the final "tweaks" of my pacemaker programming at the one year check up it is working so well that I forget I have it.
