Boston

Hi Boston Pacemaker users, just wondering if anyone has had an incident where the pacemaker automatically alerts your doctor of a concerning event? Has this been effective? Did the doctor ring you? I would be interested to hear your story. Thanks

I can only imagine with 57 views and no comments that this is not an option. :(

Hello just picked up on your answer to your own question !  It is frustrating when there are many views but 0 response on this site which can be very slow moving I know !!  Maybe this is because you asked specifically for comments from Boston Pacemaker users instead of perhaps opening it up to everyone ??

I have a Medtronic pacemaker and when I had a very bad attack of atrial fibrillation one day while out and my heart rate exceeded 200 bpm and I felt close to collapse, this did trigger a response (next day) from my clinic. (Next day because during the night the day's events were automatically downloaded even though I pressed my patient assistant at the time of the event to indicate when I experienced it).  A lovely EP kind and sympathetic asked me lots of questions about my symptoms and told me If I ever got those symptoms again not to hesitate and call an ambulance.  My medication was adjusted as a result to try to keep my heart rate under control.

I believe most pacemakers can be set up to send concerning data to the manufacturer to be transmitted to our pacemaker clinic at any time or alternatively we can have home monitoring set up with our pacemaker clinic where nightly downloads are automatic, or we can download data immediately we have difficulties.  Of course those of us who have life threatening arrhythmias will have ICDs to shock our hearts immediately to prevent sudden cardiac death when an event is more serious.

Hi. Yes I have been called by my cardiologist, twice. Both times the pacer detected A-fib and the bedside monitor set a report to the Dr and both times the office called me in the morning to check on me and then had me come in for an ekg. And a consult with my cardiologist.
