Hi all!
I've had my (first) ICD for a year and 4 months now. After about a year, I basically stopped feeling it (woohoo), but for the past week or so, the area has been quite tender/a bit sore and I'm noticing it a lot throughout my day :(
I'm pretty sure it's because I'm carrying my 3-month old baby around a lot...and tend to burp him on the left-side where the ICD is. I'm assuming my body isn't used to me using those muscles...?
Has anyone else experienced pain in their ICD/pacemaker area that wasn't there before but comes back? Should I be worried? Should I check in with my doctor?
Thanksss!

If you're doing new activity and using the muscles around it, it's likely you've aggravated the scar tissue. I've done that a number of times. Ice helps. Keep an eye out for oozing, swelling, red streaks, fever. Those are all signs of infection and should be seen immediately by your doctor. But just soreness combined with a new baby? My guess is your body is reminding you it's got a hunk of metal in there. When in doubt, always check with your doctor.
Normal

I usually have this issue as well. After we have the operation, consciously or unconsciously we tend to not use the implanted side of our body not as frequently as before
Whenever I do something out of ordinary and use that side of my bbdy, I have the same soreness
In any case, if you feel this is something different, please contact your doctor
Wish you the best
Sensitivity around scar.

Thanks for all the comments. I got my PM January 30th. I am experiencing sensitivity around the area, especially the scar. I am using Voltaren to eliminate the pain. It's not serious, just annoying. It's gratifying to know other people experience similar challenges. Congratulations to the person with the new baby.

I don't have much experience having a baby but my wife had one forty years ago. ;-) ...long before I got my PM.
I'm sure it's muscle pain or it could be that your baby bumped the PM. They tend to be quite sensitive to any impact and it's pretty easy to bruise the skin covering the PM. The skin gets between the object and a hard place (and it doesn't get much harder than a PM). Most of us tend to be pretty protective of that area but I can imagine that it's difficult when it's your kid.
