Battery use

Hi there, I’ve had a pacemaker since 2009 and was told on December 2018 check that I had about 18months left on the battery. I was due a check in May 2020 which was cancelled due to the Coronavirus. I started a couple of weeks ago to feel similar symptoms to those that I had experienced before having the implant. The clinic agreed to check my pacemaker yesterday and told me I had a year left in it and a further 3 months if it was to completely run out. She did some changes on my device and the lightheaded and dizziness have completely gone as have the irregular heartbeats that have been really making my life miserable for months. Is it possible that they made changes during my last appointment that they shouldn’t have? Set it wrong?

One of the reasons we need regular pacemaker checks is that electrical malfunctions of  the heart can change over time.

A setting that was  right for your heart  a year ago may not be right now.  As an example some conditions such as chronotropic incompetence,  ( where your heart-rate doesn't increase properly when you exercise ) may develop and worsen over time.

Glad the last adjustments improved things !

My settings have changed more times than I can count over the years- our conditions change, our bodies age. Glad it was an easy fix and you are feeling better!
