Pacemaker sharp pains - lead site

I had a CRT pacemaker implanted 8 weeks ago. Occasionally I felt sharp pains where the third lead is. ( I can feel it under my skin) In the past few days they seem to have become worse. I had a telephone check up 2 weeks ago and the doctor said it could be nerve pain.         Has anyone else experienced this? Should I inform my doctor or the pacemaker clinic or is this normal and will it pass?

Sharp pain

Hello Aberdeen,

I would courteously ask to be seen in clinic for some checks.   I would not be satisfied with a telephone consult.  If your pain is getting worse they might need to carry out some checks to make sure the leads are in the right position for example.

I had sharp, sudden nerve like pain initially and still get episodes when I least expect them (like an electric shock/tearing sensation).  They hold the device in place with a suture and sometimes this can cause these sharp pain sensations that we feel around pacemaker if the device moves slightly pulling on the suture.  Hopefully you will soon be pain free.

UPDATE, found this interesting thread on the same subject which might be worth a read Aberdeen if you haven't already seen:

If the pain is increasing rather than staying the same or decreasing, for sure call and let them know.
