this my first try at leaving a message.i live in southern england and had my op for my pm 11.04.2007 the op went very well i only had local so was up walking around as soon as i got back to ward.i was in "self caring" ward so had no help from nurses not that i needed any,the only problem ive had is that over here i am not allowed to drive until i see the pm tec next monday ive had hardly any pain and have kept on working, the first week in a sling to remind me not to use my right arm {i am left handed}but still had trouble hanging out washing etc, as i live alone i had no help but i think this does help you to get on with life ! i have not had any black-out since and am doing fine.

Hello Kathy and welcome to the Pacemaker Club and this terrific website. It is always refreshing to read of someone who has had an easy recovery. I am so glad Kathryn pointed out the date is different in Europe. At first I wondered why you weren't driving after 6 months! People out there who are anticipating getting a pacer need to read about the successful implants and quick recoveries. Sometimes we get so focused on the problems, etc., that we might scare people who are preparing for a cardiac device. It is healthy to have a mix of all the experiences. Believe it or not neither the doctor or the discharge nurse told me not to drive so I drove the 3rd post-op day. I had to pad the implant site a bit under the seatbelt but otherwise no problems. Well enough of this. I look forward to your future postings. You will find this is a very friendly, supportive group of folks who really care about one another though we have never met and most likely never will. Take care, and God bless.

Welcome to the PM Club. I come from St Albans.
Head Office of Ela in England and yes, I have an Ela pacemaker. What sort did you receive? It is so good to hear from someone in England. Can you let me know how you go about your checkups as I am planning to come back to my birth country for a while in the next couple of years. It will take a lot of planning so better start now. Take care, pace well, keep well.

I finished 29th in London in 2 hours 20 minutes 30 seconds which is my fastest with or without a device so clearly it didn’t slow me down ! I had no problems apart from some slight chaffing on my scar - more Vaseline next time.
