I recently found this site and was glad to see all the optimism and positive information about PMs and heart disease. I have read about 20 threads and feel there are many people here that can be of assistance to me and others with questions and concerns.
I am 29 years old, and just had a PM implanted 2 weeks ago. After the first week of headaches and soreness past, I began to feel so much better! I still have to take it easy though, as not to disrupt the leads of course. For someone who has loves any activity, it is hard to stay sedentary for long periods of time. I am itching to go for a ride on my motocycle, jump in the ocean, play basketball, or get back into my workout routine. I took an online class to keep me busy, but we all know how boring American National Governmnet can be ;)
Any suggestions on how best to pass the time would be great!!
Also, feel free to drop me a story, a tip, or lessons you have learned that may be helpful in my new journey...
In case you are interested in the quick version of my history, here it is...:
I had ASD repair when I was 4, developed flutter, then bradiacardia later in life. Tried ablation, but my flutter was located in the left atrium, so they would have to punch through the ASD repair to fix it, and didn't want to do that. So I take cumodin daily for the flutter, and now have a Medtronic PM, as to keep my HR above 30-40.
Thanks to all,
Greg

Passing Time
by hooimom - 2007-06-05 06:06:08
Greg,
It is hard to sit still, isn't it? I read a lot after my surgery. I got hooked on some stupid TV shows. I talked to my friends--they were great and tried to keep me busy. I took naps (which I never do). I rented movies. I went for walks with my dog. It all sounds very boring, but these things saved my sanity at the time. I find it very boring to be home most of the time so it was tough. The good news is that the time does pass and you'll feel better than ever.
You sound like you are adjusting really well. You have a great attitude. Seems like you have been through a lot already! Good luck with the PM.

Greg,
I'd say your on your way to returning to normal. In the meantime, you may wish to spend more time learning about your medical condition. An informed patient, is a more healthy patient.

Thank you guys!

I wasn't really self-conscious about it. I didn't even know I had one until around six or seven years old. I just thought I had a rock in my side.
woah!
