Numbness around Pacemaker

I recently am having numbness  and soreness on  and around my pacemaker. I have had it for 5 years and never had this feeling. Anyone have any idea what is wrong?

Numbness and soreness

Andynoch, the soreness comment concerns me more than the numbness.  Does the area appear red, inflamed?  Or does it look unchanged?  Have you noticed any other symptoms which could point to pacing problems like any pre-pacemaker symptoms returning ?

It is strange after 5 years that this should happen now.  Have you been rubbing/irritating the area by a seatbelt or the like.  Do you feel there has been any movement of the device?

My only thought is that the device may have moved slightly irritating, pulling on nerves in the area and causing numbness, or there has been some friction rub occurring leading to soreness.  In the worse case if there are signs of skin changes over the device - like redness, oozing, wound opening occurring, swelling this would need immediate evaluation by an A&E/ER doctor since an infection would need immediate appropriate antibiotic treatment.

If you do a search on this site top right corner you will find many posts under numbness - I attach link which will bring up the posts if this helps

Hopefully it will be nothing to worry about and will settle down quickly but if you notice any skin changes over/around device, please get it checked immediately.  Good luck

I'd see your doctor, pronto. It's probably nothing serious but after this time, something's obviously not right.

I wasn't really self-conscious about it. I didn't even know I had one until around six or seven years old. I just thought I had a rock in my side.
