Treatment of wound

Hi All

Just wondering if there are any recommendations about any topical ointments that can be put on the wound to help promote healing.  Im about 2 weeks post surgery and and still a little sore in and around the incision location. My dr said to just it heal on its own but im sure there has to be something out there to help promote healing.

Hi Stevev, your body's own healing mechanisms along with whatever tape or glue your doc used to close the wound are enough. Ask your doc about anything else they may recommend when you go back for your check. Ice can help address soreness.

Don't put anything topical on it until it's fully healed and well closed. I second Persephone's recommendation of ice. And patience :o)  Once it's healed, you can moisturize to help with the scarring.

Tracy is absolutely right.  Put NOTHING on it until the incision is completely closed and you're 100% certain that it is. Doing otherwise is an invitation to an infection, with potentially deadly consequences. Infection is probably the highest probability of all PM complications and likely one of the worst. Your pacemaker leads are a direct path to the heart for an infection to follow. Don't play with fire.

Surgical wound

While Neosporin is good to have on hand for a superficial cut or abrasion, I don't believe it is appropriate to treat a surgical wound.  My guess is that any "healing" that Mr.Stark experienced was due to moisturization from the carrier ointment (some kind of petroleum product) and not related to any anti-bacterial qualities of the product.  Doc should be consulted.
