Covid vaccines and arrhythmia

Hi Dave,
Really glad to hear that you are so well. Let us keep you that way by making sure that you get your vaccine as soon as possible.
As you may know from my posts I am a bit of an arrhythmia sufferer to put it mildly. I hope therefore anything I say will not deter you or any other member from getting one of the Covid vaccines because the virus is far more dangerous than any temporary side effects the vaccines may bring. But you have asked the question and so I need to answer honestly.
I received the Pfizer vaccine in late January and did get worsening arrhythmias over a few days due to severe flu like symptoms from the vaccine. I did consult my cardiologist at the time who confirmed that in the presence of any infection or flu like illness, he would expect to see a worsening of my arrhythmias. He asked me to increase my betablocker for a brief period while I had these side effects. As soon as my symptoms subsided, my arrhythmias quickly settled. I should add most patients do not experience severe symptoms from the Pfizer vaccine.
My husband had the AstraZeneca vaccine. He also has a pacemaker and arrhythmias and many other serious health problems and suffered absolutely no ill effects whatsoever from the vaccine.
What could go wrong?

Seriously, there is no way the vaccine could affect any of us any more than those without pacemakers. For 99.9% of the population the side effects are minimal, on the order of any other vaccine.
Post-vac report

I had my 2nd dose of the Moderna vaccine 6 weeks ago. The side effects I experienced were consistent with what most people experience, but did not include arrythmias. Starting 6 hours after the vaccine I had flu-like symptoms for roughly 36 hours, a sore arm, and slept extra each night for almost a week. It was not pleasant, but far better than what many people experience with COVID.
Both vacs ok

I've only had my pacemaker for less than four months and I got both of my Pfizer shots with no side effects. I did get it in my right arm rather than the arm by my pm. Go for it.
both fine

as pointed out above we are not special other than some of us can use our condition as a way to get in line earlier. I had both of mine, moderna, supposedly 50% chance of side effects on the first one and 80% on the second possibly as bad as curled up in a ball with a fever and pain. I was fine, the second one was sore for a couple of days, that was all.

A properly implanted and adjusted pacemaker will not even be noticeable after you get over the surgery.
Pfizer

Hi Dave
I had my first dose of Pfizer a couple of weeks ago and only had a mild pain in the arm for 24 hours.
I have heart block only so cannot comment on other types of arrhythmia.
I also have an autoimmune disease and that was the reason I was asked to get the vaccine. I am 45.
There have been cases around the World of arrhythmia being caused by catching covid so it is very likely that in nearly all cases having the vaccine is far better than catching covid.
I read today that some EU countries are temporarily stopping Astra Zeneca vaccination because of a case of a blood clot. I strongly suspect this is nothing to do with the vaccine and more to do with the EU playing political games to harm AZ.
I say this because the data of 10 million AZ recipients have been analysed and there are less blood clots in that group than the general population!
