Scuba Diving / Sky Diving?

Hello Everyone,

Does anyone have any information regarding scuba diving or sky diving with a pacemaker?

First, make sure your doctor is ok with it. The pacer may not be the reason it's not a  good idea.

Different pacers are rated for different depths diving. My SJM is tested to 7 atmospheres which is about 198 feet in saltwater, plenty for recreational diving.

We've had members skydive. I believe the biggest hurdle for them was the straps putting pressure on the device, not the jump itself. I've thought about it but haven't yet worked up the nerve to try it.

And depending on why you have a PM SCUBA may not be much fun

My PM is only rated for something like 6 atmospheres, (I haven't checked recently - but IIRC it meant that I was ok for 30m in sea water).  BUT, my SSS means that I need my PM to increase my HR, and for SCUBA that means that I have to breathe like a marathon runner, so I'm a bit stuck.

Imagine finning against a 4knot current with a HR of 110BPM - not fun.  So I've stopped SCUBA.  Had a lot of fun, saw some amazing things, but life moves on.

I skydived, but please call your MD before doing it.

I skydived with my pacemaker, I didn't have any problems. I did ask my MD if it was safe for me to do - he told me what to look for (make sure the straps aren't pressing into your device) & enjoy.

Don't know about skydiving, but have SCUBA dived to over 200 feet with my pacemaker/defibrillator. No problems.
