There is some controversy about induction ranges.  Essentially, if there is nothing on the cooktop the "burner"  turns off - no problem.  If there is a pot covering the entire "burner", the magnetic field is contained in the space between the pot and the burner (or it wouldn't heat).  Again, no problem.

The issue is when the pot is only partially covering the  burner.  In this case, the burner can be energized and the field will leak into free space.  This is where it gets sticky.  The possible problem is over-pacing, where the pacemaker detects a natural pulse, whre there isn't one, so inhibits = no pulse. Some say this can't happen.  Others aren't so cavelier about the issue.  I'm in the second group because I am dependent without an escape pulse.  It's not worth taking any chances because there is no backup for my pacemaker.

I have used an induction hob for years. 

I was told to keep my pacemaker  at least 2 feet away from the surface.

This is easy to do. I cook regularly. No problem.

The stove can affect a pacemaker - but who is going to put their chest onto an induction hob?!

We bought an induction stove before I needed an ICD.  Now with an ICD, I am usually careful keeping my distance from the cooktop.  Three times I got too close and my ICD reacted by pacing me.  Felt like I was on a roller coaster.  I quickly backed away and everything returned to normal.  When I stir, I use a real long handled spoon.  I shut off the stove burners before removing pots. 

There are lots of reasons for having induction and I like it for safety reasons (my wife not so much because of the challenges of buying new pots/pans that work on induction stoves).  (Unfortunately, not all pots/pans that are advertised for use with induction actually work on induction). 

When we replace the cooktop we are going to get a conventional cooktop.

Recommend trying a unit in a store before buying.

Samsung Induction Range

We have an induction range we love.  Now that I have a pacemaker, I consulted the stove manual as well as the internet.  The Samsung manual says to keep upper body a foot from the burner.  I'm very new to pacing so until I understand how dependent I am I will approach with caution.
