Hello,
I am 55 year old male who recently had a pacemaker implant in May of this year. Its been nearly 4 months since the procedure. Prior to that, I had been lifting some weights. Will I be able to resume weightlifting by benching (smith machine), doing dumbell curls, and Lat pulldowns?

My EP is on the (very) conservative side. He said no free weight presses (risking a broken lead if it gets to the collar bone) but other exercises are fine. Any machines, have at it.

Have been a gym member most of my life. ICD implant 7 years ago and continued to lift although lighter weight. Found machines that require both arms seemed safer versus free weights. No problem with curls or Lat pull downs.

My EP said OK, but does not want me to do pull-ups or row a boat.

Interesting you mentioned rowing, I use the rowing machine quite a bit. Never had any issues.

Assuming you are cleared for exercise, it should be safe to do anything that feels ok. You don't want direct pressure right on the box or leads, or on the collar bone if your box is close to it. Other than that, go for it. Start slowly and ease into it. If something doesn't feel right, back off.
Some doctors are more conservative in what they recommend than others. My ep has always encouraged me to stay active, doing whatever I like with no restrictions. I've done Crossfit which includes Olympic lifting for 10 years, have been paced 25+, no issues.
