Twin pacemakers!

Hi everyone,

My replacement PM has gone well. Nearly 3 weeks now. However today my husband was diagnosed with complete heart block. They are putting in a pacemaker in the morning. He always seemed to fit and well. Just had shortness of breath for a couple of weeks and more tired than usual.
It looks like we are going to be a two pacemaker house!
Prefer it to be me rather than him. Worried much.

Twin Pacemakers!

by Gemita - 2021-10-12 07:27:42

Lizzie, your husband will be in good company and you will be able to guide him through the process of device implant recovery and other teething problems that he might encounter.  From members here with complete heart block, they are always saying the pacemaker is an easy fix for this condition.  Your husband will be much safer with a pacemaker than without it, so please try not to worry.

Once your husband has his pacemaker, he might wish to be a member of the Club as well.

We are a twin pacemaker family too, so you are not alone.  My husband got one just before me (in March 2018).  Mine was implanted in May 2018.

Good luck to you both for tomorrow and please let us know how everything goes.

We're A Pacemaker Family Here

Hi Lizzie,

Glad to hear things are going well for you with your pacemaker, and I hope you continue to do well.

Hopefully your husband will do just as well, and it won't be too long that you'll both realize the big improvements in your health and quality of life made possible by your pacemakers.

Both my daughter and I have pacemakers. She has a number of health issues and lives with us, so we're a two pacemaker household too. She got her first one in January 2012 after several ablations for constant tachycardia, and she got her first replacement last summer. She's got a Medtronic dual pacemaker, so there's a MyCareLink Medtronic remote transmitter beaming out to a cell phone tower on the south side of our house. And I have a St. Jude dual chamber pacemaker ( put in June 2019 for sick sinus syndrome), so there's a St. Jude Merlin@Home transmitter beaming out to another cell tower from the northern side of our house. It's ratted on me a few times about some episodes of afib, so I know it's doing its job.

My sister ( who doesn't live with us), also has a Medtronic dual chamber pacemaker, for sick sinus syndrome. She got hers after she passed out cold one night when she got up, with a heart rate of 38. She said she'd been feeling tired for some time before that. She's got a MyCareLink  phone app to monitor her pacemaker so it beams out from wherever she has her cell phone- probably considering the time it transmits, most likely from her nightstand next to her bed.

Anyway, we all appreciate the much improved quality of life our respective pacemakers have brought us.

My best wishes to you and your husband!

New pm for hubby

Thank you for those replies. Had the pm put in this morning, now a steady 64. After being in the low 30's with complete block, he is looking better already.
twin Merlin devices next to the bed! Perhaps they will chat to one another. 🙂

You know you're wired when...

You have the perfect reason to show off your chest.
