my pace maker

Hi. I got a valve replaced 2017 and May 11, 2021. It was defective. I also got a pace maker on maker 14, 2021. It is getting used to it.  How long will I forget it isn't there. It hurts a little when I move. I don't say anything to my wife, she worrys about me. I believe every thing is difficult for poeple getting over this pace maker. My heart doctor has nothing to me how this.  I will give it a year.

adjusting

It can take some time to get used to it. By 6 months, I wasn't thinking about it as often. By a year, I barely gave it a thought.

It gets better

Adjusting seems to be different for everyone. Some feel great after a month, for others it can take up to a year. From my doctor's point of view the biggest concern around my pain was being sure it wasn't infected. I would continue to bring your concern up with your health care team, and take note if there are any associated symptoms. Also, be concious if anything you do increases or decreases the discomfort. I know for me, warmth and physical therapy helped. Others prefer cold.

Please look for Gemita's survey about post-procedure pain. She is gathering info about the various experiences we have had.

I will give it a year.

...and then what?  ;-)

Welcome to the club.  Sorry you're here.

If I didn't hang around here, yeah, probably a year until I would have given it as much though as my little toe. My pain wasn't significant and completely went away before the month was up.  Itching continued for some time and it was quite sensitive to the touch for about eight months.  I don't remember exactly when a touch wouldn't set me off because I'd already forgotten it. Apparently I'm one of the luck ones, though.

Yeah, wives worry. That's what they do. Just go on about your business as best you can and she'll get over it too. Mostly.
