Freediving

Hi all...just checking in an asking if anyone has learned to Freedive with their pacemaker and any issues with that..? For those that dont know what Freediving is, it is the recreation of learning breath holding and allowing the diaphragm to control breathing underwater.Using flippers to control movement or just sitting there using an anchored rope to go down and up and other styles.Essentially its breath control in a situation underwater where complete control is necessary whatever underwater sport you do.

Pacemakers do have a maximum depth specification but other than that I don't see a limitation.  If you have rate response turned on, any swimming may be problematic.

Thnks for your reply...swimming is not a problem at the moment as I am a bodyboarder as well which involves duckdiving underwater an breath holding...I want to increase my ability to hold my breath for longer periods whilst underwater to stay out of the way of bigger waves.Hence the freediving practise goal. Its a very good insurance policy should I ever get held under.

Free Dive Limits

I am a scuba diver, well used to be but now I have a dual-chamber pace maker.  Doc warned me about scuba diving and I have done a lot of research and have hung up my dive tanks.  Doc says I can free dive but I should limit the depth and not go below 33-feet.  I am fine at 10 to 15-feet and if I go deeper I can feel my heart beating harder.  No more blue holes for me, just free dive in shallow water and you will be fine know your limits.

Thanks for that Stache..I wont actually be freediving just learning about breathholding...this is practise for surfing bigger waves and the duckdiving to get out the back to do this..but cheers for the headsup..

The experience of having a couple of lengths of wire fed into your heart muscle and an electronic 'box' tucked under the skin is not an insignificant event, but you will survive.
