I can only think that it will be the same as when your device was first installed. I understand it to be the same procedure. They replace the entire unit. My question is : will they change the leads too?

Gigi, I am assuming this will be a straight forward device change only for you and that your leads will remain intact unless you have been told otherwise?  They will re-open your pocket, disconnect your current device from your leads, replace it with a new device in the same pocket, re-attach the leads to the new device and then close your wound.  It should be a simpler procedure this time.

Your recovery should be straight forward too, since restrictions are usually mainly for the leads to ensure they are not dislodged or pulled during the first six weeks.  The main restriction will be to protect your wound from opening or getting infected until your wound has healed.  That may mean no stretching with the pacemaker side arm for 7-10 days, but you should follow your doctor's advice.  I wish you all the very best for tomorrow.

Tony leads usually last longer than a battery/device, so unless there is a fault with one or more leads, they are left in place at end of battery life, so the procedure of battery/device change should be a simple one, often with less discomfort to the patient than at the time of the original pocket creation and device/lead implant

It's much easier than the first. Most of the pain the first time was creating the pocket, which they will reuse this time. Most of the restrictions the first time were the leads. Leads usually last through several generator changes. This time you'll just need the incision to heal.
