trying to stay positive

Hi all, lately ive been feeling anxiety and im not sure why. I was doing ok for a while having stopped my lexapro since 5 months ago and last 4 days ive had anxiety constantly. Im sitting at my desk and i can feel my heart palpitate. What a debilitating effect it has had on me and ive even being doing therapy with cognitive bahavoir. Its just a little unsettling and i wish i could be my normal self at some point. I know its the holidays and im sure were all busy in our lives, but i want everyone here to stay healthy and well because all of you have been so nice in my time of need. god bless

Anxiety

This doesn’t sound like our positive, cheerful Athena and I am sure it is pre Christmas stress and being overtired which is causing your palpitations.  Are you remembering to keep well hydrated, to get adequate sleep and not to push yourself to do more than you can comfortably manage?  Remember to pace yourself and leave your pacemaker to pace your heart.

How is that beautiful daughter of yours?  I am sure she wants her Mom nice and relaxed for Christmas and it will help Mom too.

I would put the extra anxiety down to pressures that we are all under at this time of year, nothing more.  If you feel your anxiety and palpitations need controlling, a very low dose beta blocker might just help to control both problems, so that you have some help to get through Christmas.  And remember your PM Club friends are always here if you need to talk.

I wish you and your family a peaceful, happy Christmas xx

many thanks

Gemita Said It Nicely

Athena,

I am sorry that you're feeling anxious and not like your normal self. I think Gemita said it perfectly -- this time of year can add extra stressors onto most of our lives and it can be at times, difficult to manage or feel like we got a grip on things.

I hope that it's nothing serious and just some pre-holiday jitters and that you are back to feeling like your normal self very soon.

I wish you a happy holidays and hope things continue to progress upwards for you.

Take care and stay safe

Jer

Anxiety

Sorry you're having such a hard time right now.

You didn't say why you stopped the Lexapro. Is it possible you need to reinstate it? It's the nature of anxiety and depression that the symptoms wax and wane. You might feel fine for a while off the meds, and then---who knows why--things take a down turn, and you don't function as well without meds.

Talk it over with your doctor and therapist. Let them know you're not doing as well now.

Be gentle with yourself.

I appreciate you sharing your story - I think we speak similar language about anxiety.  I do not wish to be an advocate for medication, but I personally have found that a "just in case" prescription - kind of like a placebo - has helped me get through tough times.  In my case, I get a script for a very small amount (like 3) of a very low dose anxiety med and have never actually used it, but knowing that it is there in case I have a severe occurrence gives me some feeling of stability.  It's definitely a mind game but it helps me in my situation.  I have a small amt of a low dose beta blocker for general use but do not use it frequently and very rarely take the whole pill.

Best wishes on your journey.

Wishing you and yours a peaceful holiday season.

this might help

I have two pet turtles, Betsy and Stoli. Betsy is over 50 years old for sure. Joan and I are married 48 years and Betsy made three in the house. Stoli, the Russian tortoise, belongs to my daughter-in-law. Stoli came  for a sleep -over while our son and his wife were moving from one house to another. He's still here. My point is that turtles live long because they take life slow and easy. Their a great example of how we should take on stress. Get a turtle, box or tortoise, they will be with you forever. The second thing is Montmorency tart cherry juice. Just google "health benefits of tart cherry juice". I sleep great, stay calm, and I have NOT taken so much  as an asprin in over two years. If that helps great, Friday night is martini night I'm sure it would be well deserved. Stay close to God and have a safe Christmas.
