Anyone can join this site as a member. You do not have to provide proof that you are a pacemaker patient. You do not have to provide proof that you have been honest about your age or gender or anything else for that matter. That is why sites like this which do a great deal of good are vulnerable to those who are less than honest and just want to take someone for a ride. You may have noticed that someone is asking for money on this site to pay for a different pacemaker. The person may or may not be genuine. I personally think it is inapropriate to ask for money from other members on this site. Do you agree?

Inappropriate is correct

If someone in the Phillipines can afford access to a computer and knows how to use one, then she should be able to figure out how to make inquiries regarding funding for the newer pacemaker she claimes to need. Using this organization to ask for funding for personal reasons should be prohibited. Thank you for saying what I wanted to say.
Thank you Blake

It is heartwrenching to think that there are so many people who do not have the chance that we all have had in having a pacemaker/icd or treatement needed. Thank you Blake for the way in which you handled such an appeal. If only we could all be so dignified and tactful thoughout our lives. I am afraid I am not a person who always says the correct thing or acts the correct way but try to. I am not having a shot at anyone. Just admiring how some can handle things so well. Sincere regards Billie

People until you have walked a mile in someones shoes-who knows. Maybe she does or doesn't need the money. I admire you Blake for advising her of a charity. When I read it this morning your organzation was the first thing I thought of. It is a sad world we live in when we judge someone who might really be in need or is not. I was not thinking of sending any money but I was not thinking she is dishonest. Who am I to decide? Again, I will rest better knowing you new exactly how to handle the situation. If she does need help you at least gave her an option. May God bless you for all you do to help others.
Again thanks,
Amy

The posting in which Peter referenced has been deleted because it is did not comply with our terms of use.
I have sent the member an email advising them of a charity, Heartbeat International, that implants devices in poor patients in developing countries. If there is a need, they will be able to help.
FYI - Heartbeat International estimates that about a million people die or suffer each year because they can not afford a life-saving pacemaker or defibrillator.

all i have to say is what my grandmother said to me and what i say to my beautiful babies, when i see or hear of some one less fortunate than myself....
" there, but for the grace of god, go I".
We, none of us, are born where we chose. For some of us, it turns out for the better and we can bathe in our smugness and self righteous attitude. But for others...?
May God be your only judge
You know you're wired when...
You invested in the Energizer battery company.

I finished 29th in London in 2 hours 20 minutes 30 seconds which is my fastest with or without a device so clearly it didnt slow me down ! I had no problems apart from some slight chaffing on my scar - more Vaseline next time.
