Just a reminder that our Survey results can now be viewed

Hello everyone,

We recently completed a Survey to assess patient experience of pain following implantation of cardiac pacemakers and implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs).  The results can be found in the link below which should be copied and pasted into your main browser to open it.  My thanks again for all your contributions, without which this Study would not have been possible.

Pain from pacemaker and ICD implant surgery remains a problem for some of us both in terms of severity and longevity. Our Survey study of 322 patient experiences clearly suggests a need for better pain management and for better information to be given by doctors to patients. This was summed up nicely by one of our respondents:-

I found the literature about pacemakers misleading, as they said most people are fine after a day and back to work in a week.  My boss expected this too.  But I was uncomfortable, tired and emotional, and felt a failure for not being back to normal in a week as suggested.  More realistic info needed”.

We are hoping to get the results of our Survey published in a medical journal and I will report back on this in due course.  In the meantime, I feel we have taken a major step forward towards bringing this matter to the attention of our doctors and device manufacturers.
