Swelling

Just had a new battery/generator replaced (not the wires). I have a lot of swelling to

my left side of chest and some redness. Its been 3 days since the surgery. Has anyone else had swelling after a battery replaced??

Wound healing

Hello Fritzee, after opening your pocket and replacing your device and then stitching you up again, I am not surprised if you have some swelling so soon after your procedure.  Icing can help to bring down swelling and any inflammation.

Did the hospital give you any instructions about wound care and what to look out for?  The main concern following implant surgery would be an infection.  Keep the area dry and clean and follow any wound care instructions from your hospital.  Check for any oozing or wound opening, increased swelling (although some swelling is to be expected).  You can always take a pic of your wound and send to your doctors if you are worried or better still see your general doctor to check the area.

I had a lot of swelling and severe bruising following my implant, so did my husband.  Just keep an eye on it.  Inflammation, bruising and swelling should hopefully ease as each day passes

Swelling after placement of a pacemaker

Swelling is normal. It settles with time.

Worsening redness and pain is not normal and you should seek help as this could indicate infection. Swelling  would  be worsening as well.

Swelling is part of inflammation. Inflammation is inevitable with surgical incision.  Redness is part of inflammation.

Swelling usually settles in the first week or two, as does the red flare around the wound.

thank you
