Skiing with implantable loop recorder

Hi all

This is my first post.  My wife has an implanted loop recorder for measuring cardiac activity.  So not a pacemaker (although she has been told she may need a pacemaker eventually).

My question is about going through the skilift card readers.  In Austria where we plan to ski in January next, we have seen signs on the skilift card readers suggesting people with pacemakers fitted should not go through the gates.

Do any forum members have experience of skiing with an implantable loop recorder  fitted?

Many thanks.

John

No different to anti-theft gates in clothing stores

I've been skiing with a pacemaker using RFID ski-pass for a couple of years,  No problems at all.  They use the same technology as store anti-theft tags.

It's probably not ideal to stand right next to the reader for a prolonged period - and this is possible when the queues for the lifts are long, but since most decent ski-jackets now have an arm pocket specifically for the ski-pass it's not necessary to get the body very close to the reader anyway.

Loop recorder

Hi

I skied all last season with a loop. Totally fine even with rfid and the cardiac team even reached out to me on the slopes when my HR fell. I now have a pm. I have skied Austria twice. It's amazing. Have a blast and no worries. If her MD says it's OK, it will be ok.

The signs are usually written by the lawyers, not the doctors. RFID is common, and has no effect on devices. If her doctor cleared here, that's all you need to worry about.
