Band-Aids

I think I'm having a reaction to large clear plastic band-aid they used to cover incision site.  Looks like blisters forming.  Anyone else have this happen?  I'm suppose to leave it on for 5 more days, I don't think I will stand the itching.  Calling doctor tomorrow.

itch

I had a reaction to the glue they used to seal my incision.  red pimples and itching.  Was told once the glue came off on its own the itch would go away an it did.  I used my Turmeric supplement to calm the itch.  If you can take Bendryl or something else for allergy  might help you.  You just have to wait it out.  Do not pull off the glue.

Glue allergy

by toniorr11 - 2022-08-23 23:11:09

I have the same allergy...its the adhesive glue in the sticky part of the dressing and my skin came up in blisters too. I had to take it off and I got plain sterile swab dressings and attached it with a different tape. Although that tape wasn't perfect but it was better I'm allergic to micropore tape and mepore dressings. (UK) I also have an allergy to the sticky part of the ECG sticky pads! I get multiple red squares left around my body and they always just leave them on! I take them off now asap. A mild steroid cream helps as long as the skin isn't broken but if it is you need antiseptic. Hope this helps.

I guess I need to say I'm allergic to all sticky band-aids, I've been only saying Latax.  I've had this happen before.  I'll ask if I can remove it and use guaze and paper tape and promise not to get it wet.  I'm really afraid to pull it off, I'm also on blood thiners so my skin tears.  It is not easy getting old.

have someone look at it

I'd have a nurse pull it off and replace the bandage, don't do it yourself.

Also allergic

I too am allergic to latex and all adhesives. I got large raised red lines on my face from where the oxygen cannulas laid. Wearing the heart monitor, I finally learned that there are anti allergy stick on leads, so I keep a bag on hand and take them with me if I ever go to the hospital. They rarely have them on hand. I was also allergic to the glue they used on my head when the neurologist had me do EEGs. I don't wear bandaids.

I agree with Tracey that you need to be seen by a nurse or dr to change that dressing. Call the dr who put in the pacemaker and they should be able to get you in quickly.

My steri strips got itchy and the dr took them off and gave me a special cream to get the residual glue off.

Me too

by Grateful Heart - 2022-08-24 22:27:22

I have blistered from adhesive bandages and steri-strips and adhesive leads leave my skin red and inflamed for about 2 weeks!  Paper tape with sterile gauze work fine for me.

Lavender, I didn't know there was anti-allergy stick on leads.  I will have to look into that....thanks!

Allergies

With so many people having skin reactions, you would think they would always use hypoallergenic leads and tapes etc on everyone.

When I wore a 24 hour heart monitor, it was stuck directly to my chest. The nurse and I worked prying it off of me, peeling skin off in a couple places.

stuck to the skin

I have had the problem of tape or bandages sticking so fast that the skin gets torn off when they do.  ...and I don't have fragile skin, by any means.  I just leave them on until they come off in the shower.  Sometimes that's a week!

If I need to take them off, I've found that cutting them in half is pretty easy, then use IPA to loosen the glue.

Band-Aids

Just a update to say I have just been keeping a eye on my plastic patch, it does itch, yet I'm doing my best not to touch it.  I have until the 29th.  I think what I thougt were blisters was mositure from doing too much out in the NC summer.  Staying indoors.  Thanks for all the tips.  I also ask for all tapes and monitor patches to be left on and I remove them slowly.  I will update my allergies to say no band-aids or plastic patches.

Ahhh just two days to go!

It'll be such a relief getting that dressing off! Glad it's not blisters!!😅
