hi all,
i was just wondering if when they replace the pacemaker do they make the incision in the smae place?? i have a keloid scar and have been offered plastic surgery on it but i dnt want to have it if they are just going to cut it open again when i get the pm replaced.
any answer would be greatly appreciated. :)

I wouldn't recommend plastic surgery as eventually yes they do go in over the original incision if possible to do the box change. I would suggest using a scar reducing gel plaster called CICA CARE (http://www.cicacare.com/). It does work!!!! and it is pain and risk free. Why put yourself at risk of infection when this may do the trick, promise me you will try these first! Ask at your local pharmacy, they should be able to order them in for you. We recommend them to all our pacing patients!!!!

I first had a two wire unit put in Oct 04, it was replaced by a 3 wire unit in May 05. They made the cut in the same place as the first time. I am a 75 year old male so the scar does not bother me. I am always cold so I were a flannel shirt if it is below 70F.
